OpenAI backs bipartisan FRONTIER Act in the U.S. House

OpenAI has backed the FRONTIER Act, a bipartisan bill introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives that would require leading artificial intelligence companies to bring in external evaluation bodies to help ensure model safety. According to ChainCatcher, the company’s head of global affairs, Chris Lehane, said OpenAI supports key provisions in the bill. He also said the company met with the bill’s sponsors on Capitol Hill to discuss how independent validation organizations would be arranged under the proposal. The update centers on OpenAI’s public support for the legislation and its involvement in discussions around third-party verification requirements tied to advanced AI models.
